This fit the bill at a reasonable cost. Purchased to replace a DELL that was aging & lacked enough memory. Since this has VISTA pre-installed, needed a unit with sufficient hard drive & memory to run VISTA. It has two types of USB ports. Would have preferred an XP machine, but those are fading out, but this runs well & does the job.
I think they should have put forth more effort to replace that computer itself, not just give me an online credit. I am very disappointed to have given this as a gift and now I have to use this credit on amazon to try to find a new computer.
To my extreme disappointment though, she opened it Christmas morning on the phone with me only to find out the front of the computer was smashed in during shipping. I bought this computer for my mother as a Christmas gift to replace an older model.
However, they were unable to provide me with a replacement. I can only assume it was because of the cold weather and the computer being thrown around during shipping.
I contacted Amazon who had no problem with picking up the computer and returning it. Not what I had in mind when I sent this Christmas gift.
I can't make any comment though about the computer itself, just about amazons lack of ability to provide me with what I would feel to be a basic service.
We purchased this computer in a hurry after the hard drive crashed on our Dell. It works fine for a home computer, lots of internet and some games. For slightly more money than it would cost to fix and upgrade the Dell, we were able to get a whole new system (minus the monitor). So far we have not been disappointed. It was simple to set up and has plenty of USB ports for external devices. It took a little longer to get through the mail but that's the exchange for low price.
I had no problems setting up this PC. It works fine with my Samsung LCD monitor.Pros Not bad for the money Dual-Core processor 3 GB ram DVD drive with LightScribe Vista PremiumConsMine was shipped with an the old "ball" type mouse - would have preferred at least an optical if not a laser mouse.Comes with Norton Internet Security but only for 60 days.None of the software was included on CD (Is this typical these days).Note: You'll want to create recovery discs of your software. The PC will prompt you to do this but it will require DVD's (about 3) since the recovery won't work with CD's.
The hard drive was not imaged, and you have to wait 20 minutes to figure out if the thing actually works.The video card would not sync with my LCD monitor at higher resolution, only safe mode. Called tech support. After 20 minutes of talking with two people from India, I packed up the computer and took it back to WalMart.
